SUMMARY:Webinar: The Foundations of Supportive Learning Environments
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, May 11\, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. ET\, join the National Academy of Education and the Equity Assistance Center-South at the Southern Education Foundation for the first webinar in a three-part series on supportive learning environments. \nToo often\, schools and educators are expected to improve student outcomes without a shared understanding of the conditions that shape how students learn. This session brings together leading research and educator experience to examine how learning\, development\, relationships\, and context influence student engagement\, belonging\, and access to deeper learning. \nFeaturing Mary Helen Immordino-Yang alongside three educators\, this conversation will connect insights from the learning sciences\, human development\, and neuroscience to practices in schools and classrooms. \nParticipants will leave with: \n\na stronger understanding of how students experience learning environments;\na shared language for discussing belonging\, development\, motivation\, and the conditions that support deeper learning; and \ncore ideas to help educators strengthen supportive learning conditions. \n\nUpcoming webinars will focus on: \n\nPolicy and Systems: the school and district conditions that make supportive learning environments possible; and \nInstructional Practices: the everyday teaching moves that make conditions visible in classrooms. \n\nEach webinar stands on its own\, so participants are welcome to attend any session independently.  \nRegister today to join researchers and practitioners in a timely conversation about what it takes to create learning environments where every student can thrive.  \nSpeakers include: \n\nEshé Collins\, Director\, Equity Assistance Center-South\nAmy Berman\, Deputy Director\, National Academy of Education \nMary Helen Immordino-Yang\, Fahmy and Donna Attallah Chair in Humanistic Psychology Director\, University of Southern California Center for Affective Neuroscience\, Development\, Learning and Education; Professor of Education\, Psychology & Neuroscience\, Brain & Creativity Institute; Rossier School of Education\, University of Southern California\nSamantha O’Connor\, High School Chemistry Teacher\, Harpeth Hall School\, Nashville\, TN\nPeter Karp\, Principal\, Institute for Collaborative Education\, New York\, NY\nMathew Nuñez\, Social Studies Teacher\, Da Vinci RISE High\, Los Angeles\, CA
