The institutions of higher education where many of our members teach are committed to admitting and working with a richly diverse population of students without regard to national origin or ethnicity, and without requiring residents of the United States to provide documentation regarding their immigration status.
The Board of Directors of the National Academy of Education expresses its support for the underlying principles of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which has allowed students who immigrated to the United States as children to thrive in their educational endeavors and pursue their and their families’ hopes of productive and healthy adult lives.
These students, many of whom have no memory of any other home than the United States, make the country stronger, more productive, and more competitive. Continuing to foster their growth, continues to foster all of our growth. We believe that these young people deserve to continue to participate as members of our communities and as students in our schools in ways that recognize their valued contributions and safeguard their futures.
