Allan Wigfield is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology, and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher, at the University of Maryland. He also is Honorary Professor of Psychology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany; Distinguished International Guest professor at the University of Tübingen, Germany; and K-Club Adjunct Professor, Department of Education and the Brain & Motivation Research Institute (bMRI) at Korea University in Seoul, Korea He studies the development of motivation during childhood and adolescence and has conducted numerous studies of the development of motivation during the elementary and secondary school years. He also has done numerous intervention studies to assess various ways to improve children's motivation in STEM fields, and in reading. Dr. Wigfield has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on the development of children's motivation and how to improve it. He also has edited six scholarly books and seven special issues of different journals devoted to the understanding of students' motivation. His work has been cited 103,000 times, with an h-index of 100. He is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the Association for Psychological Science. Dr. Wigfield has won numerous awards for his research, including most recently the 2019 Sylvia Scribner Award from Division C of the American Educational Research Association.
