Elizabeth Tipton is a Professor of Statistics and Data Science, and Education and Social Policy (by courtesy) at Northwestern University, where she is also a Faculty Fellow in the Institute for Policy Research. She received a BA in Mathematics from Transylvania University, an MA in Sociology from the University of Chicago, and her PhD in Statistics from Northwestern University, where she also completed a Certificate in Education Science. Her research focuses on the development of statistical methods for the design and analysis of field experiments, and for synthesizing results via meta-analysis, with a particular focus on methods for understanding heterogeneous treatment effects and for generalizing causal effects to policy relevant populations. Additionally, in a new line of research she has begun studying ways to improve the mobilization of statistical information in decision making. In 2025, she is the President of the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness and the Chair of the Social Statistics Section of the American Statistical Association. Tipton is an elected Fellow of both the American Statistical Association and the American Educational Research Association.
