Linda Tuhiwai Smith is a Distinguished Professor at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi in New Zealand. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, a Fellow of the American Education Research Association, an international member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the US National Academy of Sciences. Her research has focussed on decolonizing research methodologies, Indigenous education, Indigenous knowledge and research methodologies. Her publications include Decolonizing Methodologies Research and Indigenous Peoples first published in 1998 and Co-editor of the Handbook of Indigenous Education published in 2019 and more recently a series of children's books that address trauma. She has held numerous positions in the governance of research including as Council member of AERA, Council member of the New Zealand Health Research Council and Chair of the New Zealand Performance Based Research Fund.
