Robert Q. Berry III, Ph.D., is Dean of the School of Education and Professor of Mathematics Education at Indiana University. He previously served as Dean at the University of Arizona and was the Samuel Braley Gray Professor at the University of Virginia. A past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), Berry played a key role in developing the Catalyzing Change series and contributed to Principles to Actions. His research focuses on equity in mathematics education, standards-based practices, and the integration of technology into education. He was also a developer of the Mathematics Scan, a classroom observation tool used to evaluate mathematics instruction. Berry is a co-chair of the National Academies' Mathematical Sciences Education Board and has received numerous accolades, including two NCTM Linking Research and Practice Publication Awards, the Benjamin Banneker Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, Mathematics Educator of the Year from the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the University of Virginia's All-University Teaching Award. He has also been honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by Old Dominion University and the University of North Carolina. Berry received his Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University, his master's degree from Christopher Newport University, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
