Sheldon Rothblatt is professor emeritus of history at the University of California (UC), Berkeley. He was formerly chair of the department of history and director of the Center for Studies in Higher Education at Berkeley. He was educated at UC Berkeley and King's College, Cambridge University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society of Britain, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and is honored as Knight Commander of the Royal Order of the Polar Star, Sweden. His specialty is the comparative history of universities. He is a recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Social Science Research Council and the American Council of Learned Societies. Besides Berkeley,he has taught at Stanford University, Columbia Teachers College and universities in Sweden, Norway, Australia and Austria.
