The National Academy of Education congratulates NAEd member Sylvia Hurtado on being elected President-Elect of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Hurtado, a Distinguished Professor at UCLA’s School of Educational and Information Studies, is known for her research on campus racial climate, college transitions, and STEM equity for historically marginalized groups. She joins the AERA Council in 2026–2027 as president-elect, with her presidency beginning at the conclusion of the 2027 Annual Meeting. An NAEd member since 2019, Hurtado serves on the NAEd Board of Directors and Professional Development Committee, contributing to both organizational leadership and the development of early-career scholars.
We also congratulate NAEd member Rochelle Gutierrez (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) on her election to a member-at-large position on the AERA Council, and NAEd former fellow Francesca López (University of Wisconsin–Madison) on being elected Division C – Learning and Instruction Vice President-Elect.
